Subway: Design intranet
3 days challenge
This project was a individual design challenge of 3 days and the objective was to submit a proposal for an internal website for the Subway employees.
My Role
UX/UI Designer, end-to-end from user research to the final designs including user research, wireframing, prototyping & visual design.
Project Goal
Create a platform for all the employees that work at Subway worldwide, where they can communicate about work and non-work related topics, plan their tasks, learn new skills & keep track of all their work-related matters.
Target Audiance
All the employees from Subway.
Brief
First thing to understand is the goal of an intranet within a company. An intranet is a private enterprise network, designed to support an organisation's employees to communicate, collaborate and perform their roles. It provides a broad range of purposes and uses, but its main role is there to help employees.

In our modern world along with the dynamic technological development, people’s lifestyles have changed. We are evolving very fast and it might be overwhelming to remember about everyday duties. Whenever the company doesn’t collaborate effectively or promote corporate spirit through robust communication, we may end up losing all kind of motivation and not feel engaged anymore in our workplace.
Solution
Intranet must help people to perform their roles and get work done. There is always a need to share knowledge with a community, learn and develop, perform effectively daily tasks or have a good communication to enable a smooth management. Our intranet is going to be based on: Community, Efficient Work, Career Development, Communication.

To face this challenge, I followed the below Design Process. Based on the time limitation, I tried to pick the most efficient discovery and UX methods in order to create a logical, intuitive and efficient Intranet for all the Subway employees.

Benchmarking in UX design is essential for understanding market trends, identifying strengths and weaknesses relative to competitors, setting performance standard and driving continuous innovation. After some research, I have selected the top 5 intranets with the best rate and adaptable for mid-large industries like Subway. I noticed that I could step up with my intranet by introducing a personal learning feature that will allow employees to chose their courses and develop their professional career as none of them currently have this characteristic.

Meet Rosie our persona born from our previous Research
Goals
Rosie joined Subway recently and she wants to perform her daily tasks in the most efficient way in order to show a great work. She also wants to be part of a work community and access knowledge in a simple way to feel more engaged.
Frustrations
She doesn’t know how her work performance is going and she doesn't have any tool to learn the best practises. She feels frustrated not being part of a work community. She also has work issues she would like to talk to with her manager.

Based on the main goals and user expectations
Identifying user tasks during the UX process is crucial because it ensures the design meets real user needs and supports their goals efficiently. The following mapping of tasks helped me create an intuitive, user-friendly intranet and ensure the alignment between the product and users' workflow.
Online Community
Rosie arrives on the homepage. She is going to check the community feed to find interesting posts and get knowledge from her colleagues.
Tasks
Rosie is going to log into her account and use the new Intranet Subway. She is going to perform a set of tasks to have a full user experience.
Efficient Work
After this, Rosie goes to her personal space where she finds a feature that allows her to set daily tasks and manage them by importance.
Learn & Develop
From the personal space, she will find the training of the week selected for her. They will allow her to get the best practises at work.
Communication
Rosie can search for any crew members in the world and chat with them at any moment. She also has a calendar to find all the team events.

This is the structure of our Intranet and the content of each sections. The notification center won't be designed for this challenge but is to be taken into consideration for a future release as it's an important feature and give a chance to the employees to be aware of all the notifications in real time about latest updates, upcoming event or new message.
